John MacAdam, PE is a nationally recognized transportation leader with over 17 years of experience. He spent over 16 years at the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT). He garnered a reputation for leading innovative transportation solutions, pushing the envelope with technology, and communicating through change.
John currently supports companies as an IT Consultant and Engineering Consultant. He frequently writes and speaks about technology advancements for the transportation sector.

Assessing Traffic Management Systems
As the principal investigator, John is leading the creation of guidelines for assessing capabilities and performance of existing Traffic Management Systems through a FHWA project.

John supported a state DOT in the development of a video analytics RFP to help them understand available machine-learning based solutions.
ODOT ATMS Replacement
John led the modernization of ODOT's ATMS from RFI to full implementation.

I-670 SmartLANE
The I-670 SmartLANE was ODOT's first hard shoulder running implementation. John was responsible for the Concept of Operations, TMC operator training, and measuring corridor improvements.

ODOT TMC
The new ODOT Traffic Management Center opened in 2019. The facility included a larger footprint, new technology, and improved workstations. John coordinated the facility demands and logistics.

ODOT released a new TSMO Program Plan to find practical solutions to address immediate safety and congestion problems. John oversaw the TSMO Plan, TSMO Program, and first TSMO office.

The TSMO mobility dashboards, and data warehouse, utilize business intelligence to showcase statewide congestion and highway safety insights. John set the vision and oversaw implementation.
